DIY Wedding Project: Sparkling Glitter Heels

Okay. I'm a guy. And this is definitely not a "guy" kind of post, in any way, shape, or form! But I write all the time about weddings, and when I saw this 100 Layer Cake do-it-yourself project, I thought that all of our wedding and event planning students will want to help their cllients - or themselves - to this easy and fun idea. So not a guy kind of project, but guys will love the results.

With The Great Gatsby hitting theaters, the sparkle and glam of the Roaring 20s is defnitely in vogue, and you can dress up a ho-hum pair of pumps with easy-to-apply glitter. By the way, the product they recommend using is called Mod Podge (click on the link for more information. Watch this short DIY video for a step-by-step look at making your own sparkling glitter shoes.

Grooms and Groomsmen: Hot Wedding Wear Trends

Let's take note of some grooms and groomsmen attire trends that we're really loving. First - in the photo above and just directly below - I'm loving the color burst in the shirt, the polka-dot handkerchief square, the colorful bow tie, mad-patterned socks, and slender-cut contemporary suit. Click on each photo to see more images from these weddings.

Look at the next two sets of photos (see below), and you'll see the bow tie trend continue, topped off with suspenders, a Gatsby-like white ensemble, and black suspenders with natty black casual shoes.

Wedding Favorites: I Love the Flower Girls

Only a scrooge or a grinch wouldn't go, "Awwww!" at the sight of these photos of my favorite wedding princesses: the flower girls. In any wedding ceremony, one or more flower girls add a touch of levity to what can otherwise be a very formal ceremony. (We're not counting the parents of the flower girls; they're crossing their fingers that their little ones will carry out their job without tears, outbursts, or misbehavior - all of which greatly amuse wedding guests, of course.) Click on each photograph to see more about the wedding, as well as the photography credits (great job, photographers!).

(I'm cheating here. The cutie on the left is an official bridesmaid!)

When Love Knots Are Tied in Fall Colors

I remember hating one of my former college roommates for creating a destination wedding in the Middle of Nowhere, Iowa - complete with gravel roads and miles without a gas station - during the dead of winter one early February weekend. A blizzard snowed in the entire wedding party after the church service, we were bored out of our skulls being snowed in for two days, and moods got a little ugly.

June is definitely the most popular month for weddings (10.8% of all weddings), and then August (10.2%) - but September (9.6%) and October (9.4%) are the next most popular wedding months, and the rest of autumn sees brisk activity in the wedding bells department (November at 7.4% and December at 7.8%).

And with an average of 6,200 weddings a day in the United States, you're going to be busy almost any time of year if you're a wedding and event planner.
