Grooms and Groomsmen: Hot Wedding Wear Trends

Let's take note of some grooms and groomsmen attire trends that we're really loving. First - in the photo above and just directly below - I'm loving the color burst in the shirt, the polka-dot handkerchief square, the colorful bow tie, mad-patterned socks, and slender-cut contemporary suit. Click on each photo to see more images from these weddings.

Look at the next two sets of photos (see below), and you'll see the bow tie trend continue, topped off with suspenders, a Gatsby-like white ensemble, and black suspenders with natty black casual shoes.

    Our Favorite Wedding Floral Headpieces

One of the most beautiful uses of fresh flowers in a wedding is the artform we know as the floral headpiece. The really good ones are masterpieces, adding to the beauty of the bride. Our students in the Complete Course in Wedding and Event Planning know that trends are important to keep abreast of, and many engaged couples are opting for more naturalistic weddings. A floral headpiece dramatically carries out this theme, adding great romance, beauty, drama, and earthiness. Here are some of our favorite floral headpieces. Click on each picture for more information, along with photography and floral styling credits.

Make It Online: Do-It-Yourself Wedding Bouquets

If you're thinking of great wedding inspiration for the coming spring season, look no further than 100 Layer Cake - one of our favorite wedding blogs. They cover a variety of weddings and feature top wedding vendors, from the best photographers to the best florists. We thought it would cool to show you how they used an online resource to design their own DIY wedding bouquets!

Spend just a few minutes on Flower Muse and you’ll get sucked into a wonderland of pretty flowers. They make it so easy to discover new flowers you may have never even heard of. Search by name, color, or just browse their featured, in season, discounted flowers and bulk up. That’s what we did!

Jillian worked with Danielle of Brown Paper Design to create a few bouquet recipes based on some of Flower Muse’s most popular flowers. To help you out, we chose to make bouquets at different price points, from  $75-$200. So, no excuses. If you want to DIY your bridal bouquet, do it! Just pop over to Flower Muse to pick out some of your favorite flowers.

How much do you love these flowers? Ok, so here’s what we made with them:

Styling - The New Wedding Trend

Styling...it's the newest trend in the Wedding and Event Planning world. Ten years ago it was mainly full planning. Five years ago the new push was for the DOC (or Day of Coordinator). And now, it's styling. With the onset of the DIY bride and blogs like Style Me Pretty and 100 Layer Cake, the wedding stylist was born. I have personally seen a boom in my business with clients wanting me to style their wedding.

By style, I mean take their 500 pins from Pinterest and turn all of those ideas into a cohesive look. It is awesome! I love it...it is so much more creative than just being the DOC, and I really get to work with my clients on a one-on-one basis to make their wedding ideas come to fruition. Here are a few examples of weddings I have styled recently.

Inspiration for a Beautifully Decorated Wedding Reception Table

There's nothing more disappointing than going to a beautiful wedding, then going to the reception and the venue falls flat because there's no inspired decorating going on. Receptions are important in any wedding planning process. It's the way you bring every guest together to celebrate the newly-married couple. It's a way to feed and fete your guests and thank them for coming to your event. And the reception decor, particularly the reception tables, should carry the color scheme and overall theme of the wedding. Here's an inspiring reception table that put us in awe, and we're sure you'll find it inspirational, too. Click on any photo to see more.
In our inspirational photos, the rustic nature of the old wood tables and chairs is vastly amped up with the addition of lacey fabric and abundant flowers - and note the flowers at many different heights and locations (chair backs and the center of the table, with high and low arrangements adding color and romance without blocking the view across the table).
