Wellness Destination - a Feng Shui Hotel and Spa

On the tranquil island of ... well, Long Island, New York ... there's an oasis of relaxation and bliss. Is that possible so close to Manhattan's hustle and flow? Absolutely, because the Viana Hotel & Spa is a complex based inside and outside on the principles of feng shui, so there's a special flow of its own going on.

To increase the good vibes of this personal getaway destination, the entire complex was built to LEED certification, so it's GREEN and eco-conscious, too.

Doesn't this look like the dream feng shui interior design job! Imagine being able to use the principles to select direction- and element-appropriate building materials, colors, images, furnishing, and accessories - from the correct location of a fireplace to the nine elements in each headboard and the lotus flower leading to each bath. Take the complete guided tour and see how this complex was designed and built in our featured Video Pick below.

We Love Valentine's Day Jewelry Promotions

Jay Johnson - Love is in the air, and as we approach Valentine's Day, we're going to be bombarded with ads and videos and online enticements to make purchases for our significant others and sweethearts ... or just break down and buy that big box of chocolates as a you've-made-it-through-the-week-intact gift to yourself!

I've bumped into some nifty Valentine's Day jewelry promotions that I wanted to share with you. Jewelry is one of those gifts that has meaning when one person gives a bit of bling to another, but it's becoming increasingly common for people to buy jewelry as a treat to oneself (read about the self-gifting jewelry trend right here). If you're a jewelry designer, you'll want to tie your craft into seasonal promotions that have special meaning, from Valentine's Day to Father and Mother's Day. Top photo: This lovely Valentine's Day love birds necklace is featured as part of Ecouterre's 14 Eco-Friendly Jewelry Gifts to Make Your Valentine's Day Sparkle post.

Here's a "Sweet Treats" video I found created by Holly Smith for the Charming Charlie accessories chain.

Career Courses Gone to the Dogs

There's a new baby born in the U.S. every 20 seconds. That means that there are many women who are at home with one or more children, for a period ranging from a short maternity leave to an indefinite period of time away from the workplace. We're seeing more women than men taking career programs and returning to college to pursue their dreams, change careers, or more deeply explore personal interests. The following video caught our eye ... it's a fun look at career course "pitches" through Ginger the Golden Retriever. You won't find such a pitch from the Sheffield School, but we definitely encourage you to pursue your dreams and explore where your creativity can take you!

Kitchen Remodeling in the New Year

We're remodeling our kitchen over the winter holidays, and our family probably won't be able to cook a proper meal again until later in February. What about your kitchen ... or your client's kitchen? Are you happy with its present style, range of appliances, countertops, flooring, task lighting, and seating? My sister the real estate broker just told me that she sold a client's home and they bought it based on her fab kitchen design - it was a simple black-and-white kitchen with crisp black marble countertops and a black-and-white checkerboard floor. Although the kitchen was done 10 years ago, it looks fresh and appealing.
