4 Favorite Wedding Inspiration Color Stories

Pink Color Story {Photos by: Perfect Bound / Studio Straulino / Kate Spade / Oh Joy}

Do you know what we mean by a wedding color story? It's basically taking swatches of colors that provide complimentary hues, soothing monochromatic tones, and/or bold contrasting choices to begin selecting how a wedding will ultimately be styled - from the colors of bridesmaids dresses to the bridal bouquet and reception table decor.

The color swatches is where you begin. But then you start to add online photos to your Pinterest page, print out photos from online, or cut them out of newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and other print sources to add real-life images to help bring the colors to life. One color swatch might be brought to life in a pair of shoes, the trim on a dress, or the wallpaper in a chic living room. Usually the color story begins with fashion and then the story grows and grows from there. But the swatches interrelate to help tell the complete story.

    Get Carried Away with a Wedding Color Theme

    You can use just about anything as inspiration for weddings: TV shows (Boardwalk Empire, for instance, inspired countless Twenties themed events), venues (a strong venue, like a dude ranch, can naturally dictate the entire mood and theme for the day), and food (weddings have been inspired by cakes, picnics, potlucks, BBQs, and regional cuisine), to name but a few. I also think that color is a huge influencer on the theme of a wedding, setting the tone from invitations and reception decor to how the wedding party dresses. Here's an example of a "peach wedding" I found in the exceptional Real Life Weddings posted on one of our favorite wedding and event blogs, 100 Layer Cake. Click on each image for more photographs and information about the peach wedding, which took place recently in Australia.

    Peach hits a high note in the couple's wedding invitations.

    Perfect Fall Wedding Color Palette - Indian Summer

    Recently Antiquaria Vintage Registry captured mid-summer perfectly with the colors in this meadow tabletop inspiration board. Today the color palette gets softer, a little more romantic and fall-like with the addition of blush and dusty rose. Fall brides, if you haven’t already picked out your colors, this is a great start if you want to avoid the deep colors that often come with autumn.

    Don’t know about you guys, but we’re so ready for fall and this inspiration board has us excited for all the pretty fall weddings we’ll be seeing in the coming months. It’s also the perfect reminder that we’ve got just four days left of summer before the official start of fall says hello this weekend!

    How to Choose Blue for Home Decorating

    Franca Giuliani - This September started with the reminiscence of a blue moon (which occurred on August 31). For those of you who may not know, a blue moon is the second full moon occurrence in a given month. Some also say it is the fourth moon to appear in a season. Now the moon is not actually blue, so why do they call it that? There are a few different stories. The oldest one I found was because of a way to describe something so absurd that it would not happen, as in “That will happen when the moon turns blue.” And of course we eventually got the phrase, “once in a blue moon.”

    No matter its origins, a blue moon is considered having powerful and magical energies. In honoring this moon, I thought it might be appropriate to talk about what the color BLUE actually means, and how we can use it in our space and lives for better harmony.

    Based on a feng shui perspective, BLUE is associated with the North East/Knowledge & Self-Cultivation and the East/Family & Health sectors of the bagua. Really DARK BLUES (almost black) relate to the North /Journey & Career. SKY BLUE is associated with the South /Illumination.

    Yes, BLUE is associated with sadness and melancholy. “I feel so blue,” or “I have the blues.” But in feng shui, BLUE illustrates calmness, peace, tranquility, and introspection. Therefore, it's used quite often in bedrooms (a certain shade of BLUE-GREEN can also work) to help with sleep. It can be used where people convene, such as offices, to help avoid conflict. Keep in mind, though, that everyone relates to color differently; therefore,
