In this post, Alice focuses on wire, one of the key materials we use in our Jewelry Design course.

Brazil's Natália Dalbem manages to turn simple wire (and the occasional slab of amethyst) into a style distinctly her own.

In this post, Alice shows us some of the creative projects that have recently caught her eye.

It's been a while since my last Random Pluckings, so let's start a round with this balloon ring by Dutch designer Erik Stehmann.

Looped twine from Australia's Luke-John Matthew Arnold.

Modern minimalism from UK metalsmith Louise Walker.

"Secrets" ring by another UK jeweller, Hayley Evans; the resin encases a note with a hidden message.

England's Stacey Brumwell has a similar idea with her "Reactance" collection. Encased in the resin is a scroll that can't be read unless the ring is destroyed.

Fall and Winter are prime wedding seasons, and to start those wedding bells ringing, I chose five of my favorite photographs from 100 Layer Cake's lush blog pages, each one featuring stunning wedding and engagement rings. The ring is the thing when it comes to weddings, being highly important, symbolic, and sentiment-filled bling that couples exchange on their wedding days. Jewelry Design Creativity Can Come from ... Carpets?

The Carrotbox is a site dedicated to all those wonderful rings made of glass, lucite, resin, plastic, jade, wood, bakelite, metal, and even stone. Alice Matsumoto from Vancouver, BC, Canada has a ring shop and has kindly given us permission to inspire our jewelry lovers at Sheffield with her discoveries. In this post, Alice is definitely inspired by a "carpet" theme, which goes to show that absolutely any subject can inspire a jewelry designer's creativity.

If you like bright colors or soft textures — or maybe if you just enjoy vacuuming — check out these textile rings by Paula Mourão. They're like carpet pile! You can also visit the Brazilian jeweller at Atelier Mourão, which was founded by her late father, Caio.

Pictured above is the "Red Carpet" ring by Wisconsin's Michelle Hur, a metalsmith with lots of cool pieces in her portfolio (including a matchstick necklace).

This is my favorite kind of carpet — a flying carpet! Ring by UK jeweller and teacher Lisa Cain, whose primary focus is metal clay.

Jewelry Inspiration: Seaside Summer Fun Rings

 

The Carrotbox is a site dedicated to all those wonderful rings made of glass, lucite, resin, plastic, jade, wood, bakelite, metal, and even stone. Alice Matsumoto from Vancouver, BC, Canada has a ring shop and has kindly given us permission to inspire our jewelry lovers at Sheffield with her discoveries. I wanted to find something in Alice's archives that would remind us of summer, and I thought these were the perfect beach rings.

This is the work of UK jeweller Hollie Paxton and her fun "Seaside" collection. Hollie's designs have been worn in a BBC documentary and a motion picture, she's sold creations through Harvey Nichols, and she produced a 60-piece collection for the UK Music Hall of Fame, with pieces given to Beyonce, James Brown, and Gordon Brown. 

Bonus link: Despite being in Colorado, Lisa Wells is also inspired by the sea. Check out her site, Reliquiae Jewelry, for an assortment of embellished rings, including her "Oxidized Sterling Silver Anemone Ring" and "Oxidized Sterling Silver Reef Ring."
