Deconstruct Original Jewelry Pieces for Fun & Profit

Photo: Brian Appio
Have you ever thought about turning your jewelry-making skill into an unfinished project? Huh? Instead of finishing off a piece, perhaps you could package the components in a baggie along with a sheet of instructions. Instant craft! The following video shows a simple stop-action process that's very effective in demonstrating how an assortment of beads and hemp form a bracelet. Could you turn one of your projects into an easy-to-make craft? For fun, try designing a piece with packaging as a craft kit in mind. Thanks to clever musicman Christofer Drew (see photo above), aka Never Shout Never, for this great way to further "productize" a jewelry designer's work.

As lead curriculum developer for Sheffield School, I'm interested in seeing all the different ways our jewelry students can make a living with their design skills. If you'd like to know more about jewelry design, I encourage you to explore the Sheffield SchoolNew York, NY. Sheffield began as an Interior Design school in 1985, and then expanded our course offerings to train people in other design-related fields, including Feng ShuiWedding and Event Planningand Jewelry DesignWith thousands of active students and more than 50,000 graduates, Sheffield has trained more design professionals than any school in the world.
