Marketing Tools Promote Jewelry Designers

If you're a jewelry designer, you want to get the word out about your creations - unless you're designing for you and only you. Case in point, Sarah from Brown Dog Studio. She's put together the underpinnings of a great marketing program.

  • Her Brown Dog Studio blog showcases her work, and her posts allow Sarah to talk about her creative process and get readers inside her head. (It's a very entertaining and engaging ride!) She also uses the blog to push out her creations with direct sales and invitations to email her for her studio address. She invites custom work and promotes trunk shows and public sales from her website.
  • She recently hired a professional photographer to do a photoshoot of her creative process and final creative results.
  • Sarah put the photographs of her work into a video, and it displays the creative process and wraps a feel-good song about working with your "own two hands" around her work. Here's the result, providing a very effective marketing piece for her business.

I was actually looking to go to Sheffield for a while in high school. I decided against it, but sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice. I enjoyed reading this though!

Sarah's blog is nicely laid out. My one suggestion for her would be to upgrade to a hosted website using the wordpress.org (not wordpress.com) blogging software. And then to sell her products using paypal. I don't know if it is possible to integrate paypal with blogspot, but if it is I would suggest that as a first step.

There are always limitations using the free blog sites like blogspot and wordpress.com. But when you have a hosted site, then you are in full control. The downside is the extra cost and the time to create and maintain one of these sites. But that can be outsourced to a reputable company and then once it is setup, then the ongoing maintenance can be as much or as little work as you want.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents worth...

Cheers!

These are great ideas. Some of the best marketing is going to be the technical and online things to build your web presence. Another great idea is to consider your packaging. The Cardboard jewelry boxes that you package your jewelry in for display, and shipping can be purchased in bulk which will save you money. But the boxes can be customized to have your company name and / or logo. This helps to build brand recognition.

Fantastic ideas to create blogs about your work, the internet is such a valuable tool for getting your work known, using video too is also a great marketing tool, especially with appropriate music to accompany. Great work!

Hi Jay,

I absolutely love the creativity of these designs you've put together. I think jewelry designers with such creative ability need all the promotional help they can get. My focus is on www.trollcharms.net/chamilia-beads and www.charmbraceletsx.com among others.

It is always refreshing to know what others designers are doing in the community. Putting pages like this together help other people create their own jewelry too when they can.

Well done for all the effort you put into this.

Cheers
Mike

I think what Sarah did was great. Businesses have to differentiate themselves in this highly competitive jewelry industry. I think the more she can create a lifestyle around her brand the more sought after it will be.

Social media could be her best friend. Create a behind the scenes experience on Facebook etc showing her creativity. Show her work along the way rather than just once it's complete, letting her customers comment and share their ideas along the way.

Great article

I really like the way this blog presents the creation of jewelry.
Give me some emotion to realize that in the other part of the planet some designer follow the same way that we are doing in our factory.
We really suport the work of Sarah from Brown Dog Studio, the video gave us a real view step by step about her work.

New ideas all the time come to make Creation never stop

Tx for all

Interesting post, online marketing is definitely very important for jewelry designers.

Beautiful products that should certainly be out there for all to buy!! A suggestion above was for you to sell your products using Wordpress.org which is a good tip, the writer Dale at Numis Network said he did not know whether you could integrate Paypal with this, you can if you choose the Market theme which has a cart, as well as being designed for being seo friendly. You would need a Paypal business account, which is a simple set up process. Best of luck to you girl.

Wow, pretty gorgeous collection of jewelries! Pretty cool designs. I'd love to join such program like this, but unfortunately there's nothing like this here, this inspire me to create one, just a small group. Thanks a lot. :)

Fashion promotion is quite a bit of work. It is not just a photo, not a blog nor SEO.... Style, branding and getting a 'name to follow' is a key factor. Everything, and I mean everything does come into play but these concepts should get you started.
