Super Nova: Sheffield's Jewelry Instructor
We can’t help it: we’ve got to brag about the talents of Nova Colette Bronstein, our firecracker of an instructor in what’s proving to be the best online Course in Jewelry Design ---the one offered here at the Sheffield School, of course! Nova’s work is thoroughly contemporary, wending along the border between the soft and the rough, the sharp-edged and the gently curved.
Nova’s inspiration often comes from fabrics, and her pieces have the undulations of velvets and lace, yet are crafted from some of the toughest metals to be found. They’re a unique expression of seemingly conflicting elements that nevertheless not only live together in harmony, but which create a dynamic, compelling expression.
Nova’s fascination with conflicting elements also plays out in her larger art pieces: her steel 2007 installation “Facets” brings the shapes of gemstones, painted peony pink, to a construction site.
As the daughter of two artists, Nova has been making art most of her life; she started her formal training in the late 1990s, working with textiles at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and most recently earning a BFA in Metalsmithing from the State University of New York.
We’re so proud to be working with Nova, that we just had to let you know! You can see more of her work in person at the Museum of Art and Design in New York. One of her latest pieces on display include the silver heart earrings below.
