Super Nova: Sheffield's Jewelry Instructor

We can’t help it: we’ve got to brag about the talents of Nova Colette Bronstein, our firecracker of an instructor in what’s proving to be the best online Course in Jewelry Design ---the one offered here at the Sheffield School, of course! Nova’s work is thoroughly contemporary, wending along the border between the soft and the rough, the sharp-edged and the gently curved.

Photo: Nova ColetteNova’s inspiration often comes from fabrics, and her pieces have the undulations of velvets and lace, yet are crafted from some of the toughest metals to be found. They’re a unique expression of seemingly conflicting elements that nevertheless not only live together in harmony, but which create a dynamic, compelling expression.

Photo: Nova ColetteNova’s fascination with conflicting elements also plays out in her larger art pieces: her steel 2007 installation “Facets” brings the shapes of gemstones, painted peony pink, to a construction site.

Photo: Nova ColetteAs the daughter of two artists, Nova has been making art most of her life; she started her formal training in the late 1990s, working with textiles at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and most recently earning a BFA in Metalsmithing from the State University of New York.

We’re so proud to be working with Nova, that we just had to let you know! You can see more of her work in person at the Museum of Art and Design in New York. One of her latest pieces on display include the silver heart earrings below.

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.

Hi Sarah,

I like the originality of your designs - they're really inspiring. I like the last pics of the earrings, I believe. I'm also a jewelry enthusiast focusing on chamilia beads and other modern jewelry. I really enjoy seeing what others are also doing in the jewelry field.

Thanks for putting this together.

I love visiting your site so much that I am considering of creating my very own site. What platform would you recommend? I am not educated with coding so I think I could create it with wordpress, but I saw that your site is based on the BlogEngine code and I like the your blog a lot. Thank You! :)
