Wedding Trend: Downton Abbey Inspiration

Over the Christmas holiday, a few of us got pretty obsessed with Downton Abbey. Naturally, we had to find out what all the buzz was about. And, did we ever! Good British drama paired with 1920′s fashion, and we were hooked! So, when the new season started, we were glued to the screen awaiting the much anticipated Mary and Matthew Crawley wedding. You can guess what took our breath away, yes? Lady Mary’s gorgeous 1920’s bridal ensemble. It did not disappoint! Allow us to relive it a tad…
Mary’s drop-waist wedding dress is so deco delicious and the laurel leaf tiara, stunning! Costume designer, Caroline McCall, created a lacy long-sleeved gown festooned with dainty Swarovski crystals and crowned her with a vintage floor-length veil and diamond tiara from U.K. jeweler, Bentley & Skinner, which rang in just shy of $200,000.
Since we know most of you were watching with us and possibly starting to consider wearing a vintage frock for your big day, we decided to scour the Web so you too could have a romantic look ala Mary’s ultra-feminine look, but with a modern twist. Check out some of our finds; click here for our Downton Abbey Inspired Ensembles.

We're hooked on Downton Abbey! I thought I would share a wedding photography style shoot inspired by Jane Austin that incorporates the Abbey style from dresses to flowers and invitations.

We (The Girl Tyler) designed the invitation suite, and the photography and style session was put together by our dear friend and world traveller, Chelsea LaVere.

    Enjoy!

Lady Mary's head garland really nailed a popular head dress for weddings in the 1920s. After the war and well into the twenties there was a surge of interest in Grecian styles, soft robes etc, though the headpiece echoes more of Italian to me. Kudos to Caroline Mccall for this exquisite 1920s wedding gown. It did not disappoint.

Wow... that is such a classy wedding look. Very, very beautiful. Our own wedding was a very simple one with only close friends and family. My wife would have used her mother's wedding dress but it got lost in a fire a few years back. And her grandmother's wedding ring got lost in same fire as well. It was suppose to be her wedding ring since she's an only child. Luckily, http://www.junojewelry.com was able to get us a ring nearly identical to her grandmother's even though all we had was a description of what it looked like.

Well, i think nowadays its a little cool if we go for a bit of classic. And Downtown Abbey are a nice representation of this classical theme especially for the wedding. From the gowns, the cake, the invitations down to the reception. A little bit tricky, but still i know everybody will surely love this.

I am for the classic or vintage look at a wedding. To me the idea of classic is a timeless and always stylishish option that will never go out of fashion. As a photographer this is my favourite wedding to capture as the images can be from any period. Great photos!!!
