Statement
The world of objects has always fascinated me. As a child, I started constructing forms with what was available: aluminium foil, candle wax, plasticine... The magic of creation had put a spell on me. This passion, which has accompanied me since, grew stronger through the years, and I knew that this had to be my path in life.
After my high school degree I applied to Art school, and studying sculpture was my natural choice. My Bachelor's years at Central St. Martin's in London were very exciting; I had the chance to meet interesting artists and experiment with new materials under the guidance of great technicians. Thanks to my tutors, I got more conscious of the conceptual side of my work and realized that it was not just the appearance of a piece that interested me.
Approaching ceramics in an innovative manner was a great challenge; the history and physical characteristics of clay fueled my imagination. Porcelain, the ancient 'white gold,' is a material with a rich history, with almost endless possibilities of forms and colors. With beautiful shell-like quality, soft to the touch but resistant to fire, it is an incredible source of inspiration for my work.
My pursuit is to make a wearable work of Art, with passion and technique, a unique piece of jewelry that is both a pleasure to wear and a distinctive choice, satisfying for the intellect and the senses.Olivia Monti
