Beadboard...in Colors?!?

You would think your faithful Stylehound would know the answer to this, but really, I’m stumped: what colors can you paint wooden beadboard? Is it a crime to use anything but bright white?  Here is one of the rooms in question, with new beadboard just installed on the walls.

We've done both the kitchen and bath with beadboard, and now we're faced with the challenge of having to stain or paint them; the raw wood looks so pretty, but bright white would be nice in the kitchen, and we don't want the bathroom to look like a sauna by staining the walls rather than painting them.

So, should the kitchen be done with a light stain, maintaining the wood look, and then the bath with a bright white? Or the kitchen in a bright white and the bath in a color? That's what we're leaning toward, but if that’s a good idea, then what color can possibly work with beadboard?

I am crying out to you, Dear Reader, for serious help. Time is of the essence, as the beadboard will warp unless it’s painted or stained. Please post any ideas, answers, suggestions, or directions to the Asylum for the Beadboard Insane below.

The colors blend well. Although I prefer the darker colors.

I like the idea of the lightly stained wood in the kitchen. What about a bright yellow?

If you go to this page link, go to the bottom row, middle photo. You'll see an interior that designer Irwin Weiner created with beadboard walls painted bright blue. The room was featured in Architectural Digest. The safe paint color for beadboard - and it's traditional - is a clean white, but consider beadboard a wall treatment like any other and paint or stain it accordingly. It's also a lovely wainscoting for a room; you don't have to do the whole wall in it. Good luck!

I just think of beadboard as an element that adds texture to the walls. If you look at it that way, you can paint it any color you want. If you want lighter cabinets to POP, paint it a darker color. If you want a soothing feel, go with a lighter color. You can get tile in any color, so why can't you paint beadboard any color? Good luck!

You can experiment with different colors - look around on our site and others for examples. While we specialize in higher-end oneidabuilders.net/Projects/Kitchens/Default.htm kitchen and bathroom remodeling, it could still be a source of inspiration from a design standpoint. Good luck!

Nice Website. You should think more about RSS Feeds as a traffic source. They bring me a nice bit of traffic

I am probably too late but I would go for the raw wood in the kitchen. Unfortunately, even if you have a lot of fantasy, the only to really be sure if something is to your liking is to try it out. Could be a costly experiment...

Anyway, good luck. Remy

I think light or brighter colors go well in the kitchen

From the thoroughly satisfied owner of a sauna and a sauna website ( http://home-sauna-kits.com/ ) I must say that a bathroom looking like a sauna doesn't sound all that bad. :)
