Great Interior Design Comes from Great Ideas

It's always a learning experience to go behind the scenes to see what makes interior design vendors tick. For DwellStudio, we can all get a great backstage video tour of their SoHo headquarters studio from founder and Creative Director Christiane Lemieux. A fan of Paul McCobb and classic mid-century modern design, she and her team create private-label work for Target and other companies as well as lines of furniture, bedding, home textiles, and design media. Here are some paraphrased quotes from Christiane that we found most interesting.

"Grays and browns are our best sellers."
"The most important qualities in our business are creative thinking and originality."
"Focus on the two places where you spend the most time: your bed and your couch."
"Our overall look is global mid-century."

As lead curriculum developer for Sheffield School, I'm fascinated with how vendors get the inspiration for their design lines. If you're also interested in interior design, I encourage you to explore the Sheffield SchoolNew York, NY. Sheffield began as an Interior Design school in 1985, and then expanded our course offerings to train people in other design-related fields, including Feng ShuiWedding and Event Planningand Jewelry DesignWith thousands of active students and more than 50,000 graduates, Sheffield has trained more design professionals than any school in the world.

This is a pretty solid design. The brown doesn't look dull at all. I def agree, it's the bed and the couch. :)

It's nice. However I agree with Cindy and Blinds too! I would also prefer to use blue colors. But this would change the style.

I liked the design.. color combination is very sophisticated. Agree with Cindy.

I think so many people don't think about how designers get their inspiration. From the designers I have talked with it's all about whats around them. Inspiration can come from anywhere.

I do agree with the quote:

"Focus on the two places where you spend the most time: your bed and your couch."

These do tend to be the two places that most people end up when they are home.

Hi.
I am not a designer,i am a buyer,I work for a firm called Century Mills in the UK and we sell bedding and quilt/duvet covers on line and in store.
Its hard to choose designs that we are going to run never mind trying to design a pattern or style,I will leave that to the professionals.
Thanks
