From Sea To Table

We’re all familiar now with the idea of re-use, re-duce, and re-cyle in everything from the way we shop for food to the way we decorate our homes. Now, Shipwreck Furniture is taking the idea of creating great design to another level---sea level, you might say.

It started when Nic Kruger, who was then working in construction and home maintainence, stumbled upon the wreck of the Kunene, off the coast of South Africa,  and carted off some of the bits of wood, without a clear plan as to what to do with them. But soon, a plan emerged, and a wood table---and a new business---were born.

Now Nic and his team work on finding and salvaging the wood and then fashioning them into the unique furniture you see here.

Each piece is different, and each carries a story with it---a story of the era of great wooden ships, told in the rough-hewn benches and the broad-planked tables.
