Free Book Give-Away...Design Duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby

British designers, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, have brought together their diverse and exciting designs into a collector’s book: The Design Work of Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby

The design duo has wide roots in design – Barber studied interior design and Osgerby furniture and industrial design in undergrad. They both finished their graduate work in architecture from the Royal College of Art in London and quickly became immersed in the design of furniture and accessories.

Starting with their first success, the Loop Table (see photo above), Barber and Osgerby recount the origins of their designs and the development from idea to manufactured product. The book traces by theme the inspiration behind each of their successful designs. Included are preliminary sketches, models, and snapshots of works in progress. Many of their furniture and product designs have subsequently been produced by international companies such as Cappellini, Vitra, and Sony

The Design Work of Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby is published by Rizzoli and will be released on April 19th, 2011.

FREE BOOK GIVE-AWAY: Sheffield School is joining forces with interior design blog Design2Share in a special pre-release drawing for a free copy of this beautiful, design-rich book. To enter, leave a comment on this post, and tell us in one or two sentences: "My favorite piece of designer furniture is..." - and tell us why you love it so much! With the economy the way it is, college students are suffering. This is a awesome gesture. Giving away books, keep up the good work! Hello to all here.

My favorite piece of designer furniture is the Wassily Chair, designed by Marcel Breuer, because it was so revolutionary in the 20's and we can still use in contemporary design nowadays, almost 100 years later!

That is a good idea and a great blog! I am glad I just found it! Since I'm a new student in interior design I don't have a favorite piece of designer furniture...yet! ;)

My favorite piece of designer furniture is Naftali Stern's for the Bohmerian. I love the conventional and futuristic design, I also think it is very functional.

I really enjoyed reading this post, big fan. Keep up the good work and
please tell me when can you publish more articles or where can I read
more on the subject?

I like designer furniture however it is hardly to say which my favorite is. I mostly look to designer’s furniture as pieces of art. Every unit has its own value and better suited in different interior.

Stylish loop table, I can easily see this table fit well in a comtemporary office design setup, like at the reception of a modern office. Brilliant.

My favorite right now is Jeff Zimmermann's 'Drake' chair, because it oozes texture & character. For its organic and clean lined style, I also love Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Taliesin' chair.

My favorite piece of designer furniture is Dorothy Draper Mid-Century black Lacquer and gold trim chest of drawers. I like it because I think it is classy. Even in todays age I could see it fit in with any style. I love her bold yet elegant pieces and she was a bit whimsical in her style. I like that. :-D
