Notice: Jewelry Call for Entries!

Here at Sheffield we are big fans of goal setting for accomplishment.  A great way to give yourself a little push is to decide to throw your hand in to a Call for Entry

Here are some good ones coming up!

CU|29: Contemporary Work in Copper:  Deadline 15 November 2011

Find application and details here!

This competion is all about featuring copper, our 29th element, as the dominent material for making jewelry pieces.  If selected, pieces will be feautred at the SNAG conference in Arizona.  So, go to it with the copper and create something gorgeous that utilizes copper's excellent malleability.

The Body Adorned:  Deadline 9 December 2011

Find application and details here!

This competion is sponsored by SNAG, the Society of North American Goldsmiths -- don't be fooled by the name, which has become outdated and has been in discussion for change for some time now-- most work that gets recognized here is very unconventional, often asking the question "what is jewelry?"  So go ahead and step up to the challenge and show your own answer!

A beautiful and delicate example of this king of work is Memento (shown Left) by Rebecca Barton.  To see more of her ephemeral and nature inspired work click here!

This is the perfect competion for some of your out-of-the-box pieces! Let your imagination be your guide here and it will likely be rewarded!

2012 MJSA Vision Awards: Deadline 15 December 2011

Find application and details here!

One of the best things about the Vision Awards is that entry is free for students!  For this competition MJSA, Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America --which is a fantastic organization to be a member of-- are looking for entries to meet the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Presentation quality
  • Effective use of matterials
  • Wearability
  • Design's perceived manufacturing and marketing potential (this is a big difference from the above calls for entries as they are more focused on artistic expression than market viability)

The Future of Design: Deadline 1 December 2011

Find application and details here!

Now, this one may be the master class of all competitions!  Oriented towards those ready to put forward a business plan this competition is all about being ready to launch.  The entry fee of $300 requires one to be pretty serious and far enough along with jewelry design to have a solid collection to present.  However the upside is pretty phenominal.  The grand prize is $250,000 in cash as just one of the many invaluable perks.   My suggestion, even if you aren't ready for this one now you should take note and keep it in mind for the future!

For a practice run, fill out the questionaire HERE ...and see where you stand!

Very cool. This is great. I just can't imagine that copper can be designed that way for jewelry. I don't think it could come with that look. It looks so Roman or even Greek. I think it would be great to use in classical theater.
