The Domino Falls

In the midst of collapsing businesses, I'm stunned and so sad to see that DOMINO, the terrific design mag, has gone under.

The closing of the magazine was announced on their web page, http://www.dominomag.com/ I especially liked their motto, quoted now on their home page: "home should make you happy." Indeed. Domino had such a fresh, happy, approach, and yet it was realistic, and had great photos. In the announcement, the editors say their hand was forced due to a lack advertising dollars. What on earth are we going to do now? Especially now that so many unemployed people have more time to sit around wondering how to fix up their places?

I wonder it this is more symptomatic of the death of print or the slowdown in interior design after the sub prime fallout. (The first seems more likely--but then why are they shutting down the Web site?)

Anyway, I'm really disappointed to see this great magazine go.

Boo! I am constantly looking to redecorate and went to Domino for most of my inspiration.

I think Kelly has a point. Domino is just another magazine in a long line of retired rags. Not that Domino is just another magazine though. Where to now?

How very disappointing...wonder if those who have a current subscription will be assigned to another decorating magazine for replacement remaining issues left on their script? Think I'll check that out.

When this happens (as it's happened so often recently) the magazine will usually assign you to another magazine printed by the same publishing company. You usually have some say in which magazine you get--and you should avoid taking the default option, because this may not be the magazine you want.

Remember Radar magazine? When they went under the publisher tried to assignment to a gossip magazine, which I had no interest in. Fortunately, I intervened and got something I liked better.
