Taking the Plunge
Apparently a couple in Alaska recently hosted their wedding at a swimming pool. Not just AT the pool, but actually IN the pool. Instead of a walk down the aisle, the bride slid down a 136 foot slide into the water to meet her groom.
Alaska + March + Swimming pool = Wedding?
Thankfully, the pool was both indoors and heated. The bride and groom are both fitness fanatics and their wedding guests were treated to a pool party after the ceremony complete with a pool shaped cake (which is what… oval? square? kidney shaped?).
Even still, this is one of those off-beat nuptials that one hears about from time to time. Like the couple that gets married in mid-air after jumping out of an airplane or while snowboarding down a Colorado mountain. Has anyone ever attended one of these “extreme” weddings? I’m interested to hear a first person account of how it went down. Were all of the guests behind the couple’s choice? Did people enjoy it? Were the bride and groom pleased with the adventure, I mean, day? Perhaps I am most interested to find out how many of you would have a wedding like that for yourselves?
Let me know!

This wouldn't qualify as an "extreme" wedding in the sense of physical activity, but two of my friends had a very unconventional "goth" ceremony that took place on the Battleship New Jersey the night before Halloween. All guests were required to dress in Halloween costumes, and the bride and groom wore custom-made black attire. The bride's father walked her down the aisle dressed as the grim reaper, and the couple was married by an officiant dressed as Pinhead from the movie "Hellraiser" in front of a steaming cauldron glowing with red light, his voice distorted by a vocoder. As a general rule, I *hate* weddings—i consider them synonymous with endless tedium—but this one was amazingly fun. Despite the stereotype of gothic events being gloomy and somber, this wedding was lighthearted and fun, and more like the best Halloween party ever than any wedding I'd had to suffer through before.
As a dedicated fan of Halloween, I really enjoyed hearing about this wedding. What fun! I love that the couple's parents & the officiant got in on the action too. What probably made this wedding so successful was the total commitment to the Halloween theme. When incorporating something "out there" it's usually better to either go all out or to be very subtle. Something in between might seem weird & disjointed. Thanks for the story, Lais!
I would totally have a rock climbing wedding, if ever I got married. Seriously, we would climb routes right next to each other and then kiss at the top. How's that for extreme (and cheesy?)?? :)
But Jeanne--what if you (or your fiance) fall down on the way to the top?
We would both be tied down to anchors at the top, perhaps anchors in the shape of a heart, ha!
Jeanne, just think about how significant "tying the knot" would be that day!
Wedding Belle, exactly! ;)
