My Big Fat Front Hall

I’m sick of my front hall. And I know better than to have a lousy front hall. The little I know about Feng Shui includes the idea that the entrance to a home is of utmost importance---another lesson from Feng Shui that also squares with basic design sense and basic good sense.

"Design-savvy Hospital": an oxymoron?

In thinking recently about how important good design is to good health (don't ask for the details) we came across this about the Hospital for Special Surgery, NYC's premier hospital that only does orthopedic surgeries. It's so fabulous that, literally, princesses and other royalty from around the world, not to mention major league sports stars,  go there for their knee replacements

Mind If I Slip Into Something More....Leathery?

This just up at Patricia Gray's blog: an entry on leather slipcovers. When we first saw this, we thought, Huh? it just seems weird---aren't slipcovers supposed to be either your grandmother's chintz or a tidy white cotton duck? And in either case, isn't the point of slipcovers to protect the furniture from Kitty's claws and Junior's muddy sneakers? How could leather slipcovers possibly work?

Evolution of Design

Tomorrow, February 12, is the birthday of Charles Darwin, and it's also the sesquicentennial of the publication of his book, The Origin of Species.Evolution: the idea that species evolve from previous species. Rock-A-Stylish-Baby
